Interlaken guide
Buried deep in the Swiss Alps, and nestled neatly in between two lakes, Interlaken is a tale of two cities. First there's Interlaken in the winter, quieter than the summer months but one of the best places in Europe to engage in adrenalin-pumping outdoor winter sports. Then there's Interlaken in the summer, a livelier city with even more outdoor sports and some great hiking. If you're not the outdoorsy type, don't fret. Thanks to the surrounding mountains and lakes, it's worth visiting for the scenery alone.

Deniz the hostess was extremely helpful and nice and she became quite good friends with the girls by the end of this visit. The Positives: Ours was an absolutely fantastic trip. It had the prettiest sights to wake up to. Deniz, the manager, was extremely helpful. She gave us a ride into town a couple of times. She suggested things for us to do in the area and even took us to the local shops, waited while we rented our gear and dropped us off at the station. She helped us out with food etc. when we had run out and also entertained us with funny stories from her experiences. The room itself was very warm and comfortable. We had the 4 bed dorm to ourselves and we could just lock the room and go but I don\'t think it would have been a problem otherwise either. The place is very safe. The wireless internet works pretty well, even from the rooms but is best in the breakfast area. The rooms were very clean and the sheets washed and well kept. The bathrooms were always clean as well. The somewhat negative: Iseltwald is an extremely pretty village but it takes a 30 minute very scenic bus ride from Interlaken to get here, This ride can be expensive if you don\'t have a swiss pass or something. Also, the last bus is at 8:06 from Iseltwald. Taxi rides from Interlaken cost CHF 50 or about in the night. This isn\'t such a big deal because the mountains close down at aroun 6 anyway and you will need to make your way back at that time. close

While its a smallish town and quiet enough, its so picturesque and the air is so clean and the scenery is so breathtaking that you really feel that you are going through a detox walking around. Interlaken is the outdoor and adventure capital of Europe. Skydiving, Skiing in winter and then hillwalking, mountain biking and water sports take over in summer. Its a very clean city, there's not the greatest selection of places to eat out or shop but as a place to go and expereience the great outdoors its the bestclose

In the group that I went with, some of the girls went canyon jumping and absolutely loved it. I went to \"The Top of Europe\" in the Alps and once you get up there it is the most magnificent view I have ever seen before, especially if you love mountains. If you do go the \"The Top of Europe\" be aware that the first 2 trains leaving in the morning offer a discounted price, and an additional discount is given if you are using the EuRail passes. The best thing that we did there was skydiving. Yes, it is a little more expensive than the rest of the adventures offered, but it was amazing. I would recommend that everyone does it once in their lifetime, but where better than by the Alps and lakes present in Interlaken? The people at the skydiving place were very nice as well, they made sure that you were comfortable and made sure that everyone enjoyed their flight. There is not one person that did it while there that regretted it- especially since it was only about $300. I would also recommend getting the picture package that is offerred by the company. I did not personally do it, but one of the other individuals I was with did, and the pictures turned out very nice. Her pictures actually also included pictures of all of us jumping out of the plane and landing (if you want to do this, make sure the person getting the pictures jumps last). Overall, I would recommend going here. It is definitely a place for the adventerous, but even if skydiving is not for you, you could still go just for the views.close

the description was not the same as on the internet, although i went in the low season because it was winter. the disco is more of a local hangout but the baulmers one, another hostel across the street, is pretty fun with more americans and what not. THE BREAKFAST IS BREAD AND BUTTER AND COFFEE OR TEA. i had a good time there but i might consider staying somewhere else and going there to hang out at night. i stayed at walters bed and breakfast and i liked that better and would stay there first because he cooks you a huge breakfast for really really cheap and gives you all the leftovers for lunch.close

Interlaken, I can see why everyone goes there, but also why they come back broke. It\'s a great place to start your active getaway for snowboarding, hiking, skydiving, and the like, but you\'ll pay dearly. Food is expensive, trains are shocking, and 1 day on the mountain will put you back almost 200sf. However i did enjoy my time there, and would recommend it as a great starting point- just make sure you have some back up cash!close

Trying sledging/sledding if skiing isn't your thing....be ready to hike a looong way up, though, but it's so worth it!close

Interlarken was a suprise to my gf and I while travelling through europe. The scenery is amazing with a kodak moment at every corner. The swiss people were soo nice and really looked after us well, nothing was too much trouble here. We only stayed here for one night and it was just not enough, the amount of sights and activities that it offers is amazing, best to stay 3 or 4 nights, but expect prices to be a little more expensive as although it relates to the euro like the australian and canadian dollars it is spent alot quicer (about 30-40% more). Hope you enjoy it as much as i did.close

I've been here before so I know people love it for the "partying." However, if that's all you're looking for, make sure you don't go during the off-season because less people are there (and most shops on the mountains are closed until ski season begins). It is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to. It has a lot of extreme sports to keep you busy- paragliding, hiking, etc. A great city to just relax in as well. The downtown shopping area is pretty touristy. The restaurants are good but pricey. Switzerland is expensive in...more It is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to. Old-fashioned 5-star hotel with spa. Luxurious, very convenient to Interlaken Ost station. Superb restaurant. Had my best meal in Switzerland.

2Fantastic location. 5 minutes from the Interlaken (West) station. Clean and opulent, Good service. Breakfast is also not bad. Highly recommended.

Schuh is on the outskirts of town right beside the park.There is a chocolate and pastry shop when you come in, they do a great breakfast, the eggs and bacon is to die for!
